Wave springs SMALLEY C, CS, CM, CMS, etc.
Wave springs "crest to crest" (top to top) are multi-turn wave springs, where each next turn is shifted by half a wave from the previous one and touches it. The stiffness of the spring decreases in proportion to the number of turns. They are used in standard applications requiring low and medium spring stiffness and large elastic deformations at low and medium forces. One of the main advantages of this design is that there is no need to align the points of contact of the spring vertices. There is no need for clamps or gaskets between the coils of the springs. Since the spring is manufactured as a single unit, the relative position of the wave tops is preserved.
Wave springs "top to top" are also made with smooth flat ends made of rectangular cross-section tape. Flat ends provide 360-degree surface contact, unlike multiple contact points of wave-shaped ends. Under load, the flat ends distribute the spring force more evenly over the mating elements. Such a spring is similar to a twisted spring, the ends of which are processed on a two-disc flat-grinding machine. Flat ends are also used when attaching the spring to the mated parts, since during assembly the flat end can be fixed in various ways.
